The Staessens shoots are always mini adventures. But this year’s resulted in the weirdest, most out-of-character client brief I have ever given. It read something like: “Dear Staessen Family, Let’s meet at a dirty, busy, public park, mid-afternoon while the sun is still high (and the light is harsh), at the end of winter (while it is still dry and cold). Dress in very old clothing and shoes and bring rubber gloves and old buckets.” In true Staessen style, they were up for anything and trusted us. Oupa and the grandchildren were surprised with a collaboration with Coastal Ghost, an NPO which has set an ambitious goal of cleaning up South Africa’s rivers and beaches. The founder, Stephen, always brings his three gorgeous border collies along to assist. The Staessen grandchildren made a donation to the organisation and then set to work trying to clean up Lonehill Park. They had a blast learning loads about pollution and litter and charity while Sean and I captured some different, fun memories. By Sean and Leanne Williams.
