by Jetweb

Though seasoned photographers make it seem so easy, taking a good photograph is about a number of elements coming together in the correct way. Photographers needs to understand composition, light, balance, vantage point, texture, depth and line. These elements all come into play to make a great photograph. Here are 7 tips for budding photographers.

1. Composition

The composition of a photograph refers to how your elements are arranged on your photograph. Though there is no set way to compose each and every photo there are rules of composition which must be followed to ensure a good photo.

2. Lighting

Depending on where the light is in relation to the subject you will get different effects. Usually the light needs to fall on your subject, this ensure that your subject is properly lit and that the photograph is clear. That being said you can also get some really good shots when shooting into the sun. Photographers spend time learning how lighting affects their photographs.

3. Depth

Depth of field is the distance between the furthest and nearest objects in a scene. By changing the aperture you can emphasize the foreground whilst minimizing the background or make the entire image sharper.

4. Texture

When taking a photograph you are able to create texture, texture refers to how something feels. You can use texture to create a certain feeling to a photograph. It can either become the main focus of the picture or it can be used to emphasize the main focus.

5. Vantage Point

Good photographers learn how to work with vantage points. The angle from which you shoot a photograph can drastically change the results of a photo, whether you are shooting an inanimate object or a person.

6. Line

Lines can lead the eye to focal points in your photograph and they can also be used to create very interesting patterns. Play around with horizontal, vertical and converging lines and see how the feel of your photograph changes.

7. Balance

The way your elements are positioned can result in the picture being balanced or unbalanced. Always aim for a balanced photograph.
