Minette’s 40th birthday party was held at Le Sel in the Cradle. Many of us got lost despite the maps and directions! I was traveling from another area to where Minette’s directions started. From google maps I could see that I was very close to Le Sel , and after 10+ years of traveling to new locations almost every day, I was confident I would find it easily. I left an hour and thirty minutes before I was due to start shooting. Google maps told me it would take twenty minutes to get there. It lied. It also directed me in circles. And then to a completely different venue. Thank goodness for cell phones and husbands – I arrived only 15 minutes late. And I was extremely amused to discover that a few of the guests had made the same mistake as me, with the last couple arriving two and a half hours late! Minette had a lovely sense of humour about it and welcomed her late guests graciously and warmly. As it turns out, the event was completely worth the petrol and speeding fines. Minette had hired Zenobia Davids from Blue Olive Events to co-ordinate beautiful stationary and elegant white-on-white decor. Guests, all adorned in white, were welcomed with cold fruit juice, and a display of the world happenings in the year Minette was born. The table was set on the patio, with a breathtaking view and a very welcome cool breeze. Lots of hugging, selfie-taking, and chatting ensued. Minette’s children, Phoenix and Legacy provided lots of cute entertainment and helped everyone work up a good appetite. Pheonix was an absolute charmer and took an interest in my photography – I even let him snap a shot or two – I NEVER let ANYONE hold my camera!
